HOW LASER SCANNING WORKS.

A laser measurement beam is emitted from the scanner at just under 1 million times per second. The beam bounces back from the surface of the subject area to create a point in space with an X, Y and Z coordinate value. Millions of these points are collected and they form what is commonly referred to as a "point cloud". Multiple scanning locations can be oriented together, merging the multiple point clouds into one. These point clouds or single project cloud can then be utilized to create 2D and 3D cad files or models. The data captured is at an accuracy most likely greater than the required tolerance for the project.
